LOGOS & BRAND IDENTITIES THAT TELL A STORY
There is a lot of stuff you can live with: a bad haircut, elevator music, drivers who cut you off, Gangnam Style imitators, leaving the toilet seat up, repeats of Neighbours and yes, even your mother-in-law!
But you cannot, will not, should not live with a bad brand.
A brand – logo, sign, badge, insignia, emblem… call it what you will – is your portal to the world at large. It says exactly who you are. There are two things that set famous brands apart from the rest – distinctiveness and, ultimately, simplicity. But there is the trick in itself…
When Frank Robinson sat down in 1885 to devise a logo for his boss’s bottled medicine, he employed a fairly commonplace cursive script – Spencerian. Today, Coca-Cola is the world’s most recognisable AND persistent brand: sold in over 200 countries and with close to 150,000 employees, the company has yielded 50 consecutive years of increased dividends… and sells 1.8 billion servings a day!
Obviously, we can’t all sell sugared water for a living but Stu-Art Graphics can build, or enhance your existing brand. And, coupled with the right blend of marketing, ensure your brand is relevant, idiosyncratic and enduring.
Consistent branding is an imperative for any business: large or small. Consumers will always remain with a brand they know and trust – it doesn’t have to be convoluted to get the message across. Simplicity is more often the key, but a well defined brand does give you a competitive edge.
But branding is even more important for casting your net to new customers. It’s the ultimate form of communication – they have steered in your direction because you have effectively communicated the solution a customer is looking for.
Similarly, a bad brand can drive people away – people that you’ll have to work doubly hard at to get them back. You know you’ve got the right product and you know that you look after your customers – but is that the way others ‘brand’ you?
